King Khan Shahrukh who has been looking anxious for a block buster after his average fared Don2 and Jab Tak Hai Jaan is arrived with yet another attempt and this time he has teamed up with King of comedy Rohit Shetty who is riding high with super success of Golmaal series. SRK roped in her lucky lady Deepika Padukone who gave him success in the past in Om Shanti Om. SRK did not left no stone un turned to make it the big league. Let us see how this one works.
Story : Rahul (SRK) is 40 year old bachelor boards Chennai Express train where he meets Meenamma Lochni(Deepika Padukone) and fall in love with her and tries to woo her. Rahul succeeds in entrap Meenamma and in the process he got to know that Meenamma is the daughter of an intimidating southern don Durgeshwara Azhagusundaram (Satyaraj). Meenamma elopes from home as her father fixes her marriage with a local goon Dheer. Meenamma takes Rahul to tamil nadu and introduces him as her lover there starts the struggle for Rahul. How things take shape forms the rest of the story.
Shahrukh Khan is energetic best and he has got the power to engage the audience as long as he is onscreen. He provides great entertainment with a well-conceived character and well-written dialogues. SRK is energetic in comedy and mass scenes. SRK has not been getting a right film in the past few years and Chennai Express will give morale boost and a well-deserving success to SRK. Though there’s a bit of overacting in parts by SRK, on the whole, he’s the soul of the Chennai Express.
Deepika Padukone is the show stealer. She is fit the bill as Southern beauty. She is stunning beautiful in looks as south chick gives an incredible act in this flick. She simply got into the shoes of Meenamma and her performance is impressive.
Satyaraj has the great potential and screen presence. However, he does not get much opportunity to prove his mettle. He delivered his best as the role demands. Nikitin does justice to his villainous act.
Story – screenplay – direction: The story of the film is fresh. The story writer (K. Subaash) added twists to it by playing with the characters. Screenplay is neat and with an interesting. Rohit Shetty repeats the comical magic yet again. His has added nice entertainment quotient to the film. Direction by Rohit Shetty is good and he has fair understanding of masses pulse.
What Not Worked:
Screenplay lag in First half
Added Tamil nativity
Analysis: As it has brand ‘SHAHRUKH KHAN’ associated, there’s certainly a lot of hype and hoopla around. A SRK film is all about high energy performances, mouth drying glamour dose and above all, hilarious comedy. These are the standards he has set from his past movies. Given his recent track record it was important for him to sustain the same expectations. And this time it looks like the director has succeeded to an extent.
Chennai Express is lighter vein entertainer. First half of the film is highly entertaining. Second half has some story. Looks like this film is made with the sole purpose of entertainment with a workable script. On a whole, Chennai Express is a good comedy entertainer and will satisfy fans and general crowds alike who have been expecting a good entertainer from SRK over past few years.
