Kamalatho Naa Prayanam – selected for US International Film Festival. Director Narasimha Nandi is no ordinary director of potboilers that go on to impress the frontbencher audience. He is a man of substance, we mean he has a different eye, and he perceives things different than ordinary beings. No wonder he is a recipient of National Award too besides winning four prestigious awards. But since his movies were never received well by the box office he has switched to ‘soft porn’ genre that enticed him only to make money from his films.
Kamalatho Naa Prayanam was one such. The movie got rave reviews from critics but failed in drawing crowds to the theaters! The movie was a direct screen adaptation of Tilak’s story, ‘Oori Chivara Illu’ and was set in the backdrop of 50s. It was his treatment to the same old story (a sex worker dreaming to live a life that is normal and she meets a man who is different from her regular clientele and he tries freeing her from her terrible life..and the aftermath) that makes Kamalatho Naa Prayanam interesting to watch.
The makers are happy it’s selected for an International Film Festival even after failing to impress local audience! But that’s how off beat films do!
