Actor Srinivas Avasarala’s directorial debut became a curious project when it was announced by a production house that produced a mega hit film Eega with SS Rajamauli. A proven actor with comic timing is set to make his debut as a director for a romantic comedy sure would have expectations and let’s see if those expectations are met this weekend.
‘Oohalu Gusagusalade’ is a leisurely paced, heavily witted love triangle between three characters. Film opens with a happy go lucky aspiring TV anchor(Shaurya) who is despised by his boss(Avasarala Srinivas) for his charms. When boss falls in love with the girl(Rashi Khanna) he wishes to marry in a an arranged marriage seeks helps of the anchor. The film takes a predictable turn when it is revealed that the anchorman’s real love in life is the same girl whom his boss is out to woo. A classic conflict arises reminding us of Sharukhkhan’s “Yes boss” and Rajeev Menon’s “Merupu kalalu”.
Best part of he film is refreshing acting by both the male leads Shaurya and Srinivas Avasarala. Shaurya sure is a discovery. He seem to be proving as an actor who can carry the film on his shoulder provided with an author backed role. Srinivas Avasarala as a soft psycho boss is comically menacing and lovable. Rashi Khanna is beautiful and adequate. Needs some lessons in emoting. Rest of the cast are adequately placed. Rao Ramesh, Surya, Posani Krishnamurali play their part.
Srinivas Avasarala proved to be a better writer among his contemporaries. His funny-bone is reflecting across the film. As a screen writer too his innovation and adaptation of Hollywood rom-com format is praise worthy. Dileep’s cinematography is worth mentioning. Especially is some of the shots he composed in natural lighting needs a special mention. Kalyani Malik’s music is just about OK. Nothing worth humming. As a Director Srinivas Avasarala is a success as a debutant. However needs some more learning and unlearning in terms of making a Telugu cinema.
Oohalu Gusagusalade is surely a film that will make you smile and feel the love. Its a perfect romantic comedy with a leisure pace like a soft and joyful melody. Enjoy it.
