Energetic Young Turk Sundeep Kishan and Former Miss India Rakul Preeth Singh pairs up with each other in a comedy film, Venkatadri Express directed by debutant Merlapaka Gandhi. Here is how it actually shaped up!
Ram Murthy (Nagineedu) is a strict retired head master lives with discipline and demands the same from his family members too. The rule of the house is anyone who do 100 mistakes will be kicked out of the family. Ram Murthy’s younger son, Sundeep (Sandeep Kishan) is a troublesome guy and is currently on 99/100. On the other side, Ram Murthy’s elder son (Brahmaji) gets engaged and the family takes Venkatadri Express for marriage in Tirupati. As usually, Sundeep misses the train and he has to catch it before it goes to Tirupati to avoid the 100th mistake. What happens next forms the rest of the story.
Here is one more boy the next door character for Sundeep Kishan. He sweeps through it effortlessly as always. But he has to improve his dialogue delivery especially in fights and emotional scenes. Rakul Preeth Singh looked beautiful and performed okay in limited space she is offered.
Dasthagiri who usually seen is Maruthi films comes up with one more memorable performance. Other comedians, Praveen, MS Narayana and Tagubothu Ramesh come up with some laughs. Strict father character is a tailor made one for Nagineedu and he is good in it. Brahmaji is okay in a little role.
The first half of the movie goes on very well with some good comedy and gripping screenplay. The ATM thief, bus and mobile scenes seem to be little dragged but you will not feel the difference due to the high comedy quotient. But the director seems to be lost in the second half. The movie gets predictable and some of the scenes like Gabbar Singh Anthyakshari parody scene looked unnecessary. Also the climax should have been a lot better.
Plus Points :
2. Good Screenplay
Minus Points :
1. Poor Second Half
2. Predictable climax
The first half is good and second half of the movie with predictable story, but the comedy saves it from stinking. Overall the movie is okay stuff. It’s a onetime watch over the weekend for some gags and killing time.
Bottom Line : Entertaining in Parts.
Cinetara Rating: 2.75/5
